Changing your address and other details registered with Social Security

Any Portuguese person or non-national registered with Social Security can change their address and other details registered with Social Security, such as telephone number, mobile phone number, email address and IBAN.

If you have a Citizen's Card, you can only change your address using the change address service on your Citizen's Card.

What documents are needed and what are the requirements for changing my address and other details registered with Social Security?

To change your Social Security details, you will need to sign in online or present an identification document in person.

Online on Social Security Direct

You will need to sign in using one of the following means of authentication:

  • Citizen Card,
  • Digital Mobile Key (CMD),
  • your Social Security number and password.

In person

You will need to produce an identification document, such as:

  • Citizen Card
  • an identity card
  • a passport
  • a residence permit
  • a civil identification document from your country of origin (if you are a nonnational).

You will need to fill in the change of details request. The application form is also available at Social Security service desks.

Requests made by representatives

The legal representative must bring: a document identifying them as legal representative; an ID document for the person whose change of details is being requested.

It's free of charge.

How do I change my address and other details with Social Security?

If you have a Citizen Card, you may only change your address using the changing your address on the Citizen Card service.

Online on Social Security Direct

  1. Access Social Security Direct (SSD).
  2. In the top menu on the right-hand side, click on your name, then on ‘perfil’ [profile].
  3. Choose the ‘consultar e atualizar contactos’ [view and update contact details] option.
  4. Change the relevant contact details.

In person

Submitting a paper form

To change the details you have registered with Social Security, you will need to provide an identification document and fill in the change of details request (click to download the document automatically). The application form is also available at Social Security service desks.

If the change of address is being requested by the person’s legal representative, the legal representative must bring an identification document for the person for whom the change of address is being made.

Accessing Social Security Direct

At a Citizen Spot desk it is also possible to change your address by accessing Social Security Direct (SSD). To do this, you will need to sign in using one of the following means of authentication:

  • Citizen Card,
  • Digital Mobile Key (CMD),
  • your Social Security number and password.

Depositing the form in the green box (Citizen Spot)

There is no need to take a ticket.

  1. You can print out the application form (click to download the document automatically) or ask for it at the desk.
  2. Ask at the desk for the appropriate envelope in which to put the completed application form.
  3. Deposit the envelope in the green box.
