If you want to know whether you have tax debts, you can check the Finance Portal (Portal das Finanças) or go to a Finanças office, a Citizen Shop (Loja de Cidadão) or a Citizen Space (Espaço Cidadão).

If there are active tax debts, you can pay them immediately or, if you are unable to pay at the time, you can request a payment plan.

Tax representatives and legal representatives acting under a judicial mandate for an individual or a legal entity may only check tax debts in person.

What are the documents and requirements to check tax debts with Finanças?

To check whether you have tax debts through the Portal das Finanças, you must authenticate using one of the following methods:

  • Finanças Portal access details (Tax Identification Number – NIF – and access password)
  • Citizen Card (Cartão de Cidadão)
  • Chave Móvel Digital (CMD – Digital Mobile Key)

Bring one of the following means of identification:

  • Citizen Card
