Requesting a duplicate vehicle registration certificate
The vehicle registration certificate or Documento Único Automóvel (DUA) serves to identify a vehicle and the owner of that vehicle.
A duplicate certificate may be requested when the document is in bad condition, has been stolen or is lost.

What are the documents and requirements to requesting a duplicate vehicle registration certificate?
To make an request on the IMTonline portal, you will need to sign in with one of the following means of authentication:
- a Digital Mobile Key (CMD)
- your Citizen Card
- your tax identification number (TIN) and password for the Tax Office website
To request a new certificate at one of the IMT service desks or at a Citizen Shop offering the service, you will need to present the following documents:
- Form Modelo 9 IMT – request relating to vehicles
- Form Modelo 10 IMT – request for documents to be reissued along with a declaration that they have not been confiscated
- registration certificate (the old registration certificate must be returned if you have it)
- vehicle identification document: logbook and vehicle ownership or registration certificate, if available (if you have the registration certificate, you must give the old one back)
- tax identification number (TIN)
How requesting a duplicate vehicle registration certificate?
Online
- On the IMTonline portal.
- After signing in on the portal, select the ‘Veículos’ [Vehicles] tab.
- Select the option ‘Duplicado de certificado de matrícula’ [Duplicate registration certificate] from the side menu.
- Fill in the online form, indicating the reason for the request.

In person
- At IMT service desks.
- At Citizen Shop counters offering this service.
NB: At the Laranjeiras Citizen Shop, this service can also be requested at the ‘Lost Wallet Counter’ if you have to deal with at least two documents.
