Authorising public entities to check your Social Security contribution status
If you need to submit a declaration of your Social Security contribution status to a public entity, you can use Social Security Direct to authorise the entity to check your contribution status online.

You will need to specify the NISS (Social Security identification number), the NIF (tax identification number) or NIPC (legal person identification number) of the entity you want to authorise to check.

What documents are needed and what are the requirements for authorising public entities to check your Social Security contribution status?
You will need to sign in using one of the following means of authentication:
- a Digital Mobile Key (CMD)
- Citizen Card
- Social Security number and password.

You will need to specify the NISS (Social Security identification number), the NIF (tax identification number) or NIPC (legal person identification number) of the entity you want to authorise to check.
For how long is the authorisation to check my Social Security contribution status valid?
The authorisation will be active for as long as is shown, or until it is cancelled.
To cancel authorisation, follow the steps below:
- After logging in to Social Security Direct, in the ‘pagamentos e dívidas’ (‘Payments and debts’) menu, click on ‘Situação contributiva’ (‘Contribution status’).
- Click on ‘declaração da situação contributiva’ (‘Contribution status declaration’), and then on ‘continuar para ações’ (‘Continue to actions’).
- Click on ‘Pedir e alterar consentimento a entidades públicas para consulta de situação contributiva’ (‘Request and amend consent for public entities to check your contribution status’).
The information on the contribution status checked by the entity is valid for six months.
How authorising public entities to check your Social Security contribution status?
To authorise public entities to check your Social Security contribution status, follow the steps below:
- In the ‘pagamentos e dívidas’ (‘Payments and debts’) menu, click on ‘Situação contributiva’ (‘Contribution status’).
- Click on ‘declaração da situação contributiva’ (‘Contribution status declaration’), and then on ‘continuar para ações’ (‘Continue to actions’).
- Choose ‘pedir e alterar consentimento a entidades para consulta da situação contributiva’ (‘Request and amend consent for entities to check contribution status’).
- Click on the ‘Dar novo consentimento’ (‘Give new consent’) button.
- Enter the entity's NISS, NIF or NIPC and the start and end date of the period during which you authorise the check.
- Confirm the authorisation.
NB: you can change the end date of the authorisation. Simply select the entity, edit the date and click on ‘Corrigir’ (‘Correct’).
