Renewing your residence permit

Foreign nationals who already have a valid residence permit, or a residence permit that expired less than 6 months ago, can apply to renew their residence permit automatically on the website of the Agency for Integration, Migration and Asylum (AIMA).

You can also apply in person at a registration service desk that provides this service. If you wish to apply in person, you must book an appointment.

It is not possible to apply for your first residence permit at a registration service desk. Anyone who does not yet have a Portuguese residence permit, or whose residence permit expired more than 6 months ago, must apply for a residence permit at an AIMA service desk.
