Who must request the renewal of the authorisation?

Procedure and requirements

Procedure

The application for renewal of the authorisation to use a tank for transporting dangerous goods must be submitted on the IPQ services portal after one of the following inspections has been carried out:

  • Periodic inspection, which is the regular and mandatory inspection carried out in accordance with the deadlines defined in the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) certificate and which depend on the type of tank;
  • Intermediate inspection, which is an intermediate check carried out between two periodic inspections;

Extraordinary inspection, which is carried out outside the normal periods when a tank undergoes repairs or alterations, or when there are doubts as to its safety conditions.

To apply:

  1. Go to the IPQ portal and sign in
  2. Under ‘Os meus equipamentos’ [My equipment], create a new ‘Renovação da Autorização de Utilização’ [Renewal of the authorisation to use]
  3. Complete the form and submit it

After the application has been submitted, the inspection body will be notified to upload the inspection report and the corresponding summary sheet to the services portal, thereby completing the process.

The owner must then submit the summary sheet of the report issued by the inspection body to the Institute for Mobility and Land Transport (IMT) in order to apply for the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR) certificate.

The ADR inspection verifies whether the tank vehicle complies with the rules of the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR). Once the tank has been approved by the ADR inspection, the IMT issues the ADR certificate for the tank vehicle, authorising the transport of dangerous goods by road.
