Applying for authorisation to market official means of identification for bovine, ovine and caprine animals
Companies and organisations seeking to market official means of identification for bovine, ovine and caprine animals require authorisation from the National Authority for Animal Health (Direção Geral de Alimentação e Veterinária, DGAV).
Official means of identification are devices used to identify livestock, such as eartags (whether electronic or non-electronic) and ruminal boluses, and are provided for in Council Regulation (EU) No 21/2004.

Once you have your chosen means of authentication to hand, follow these steps:

- Submit your application
- Send samples of the product you wish to market by indicating the reference number assigned to you when you have submitted the form.

Examination of the application
- The form and documents will be examined by the DGAV.
- The DGAV will notify the applicant of its decision by email.
Time of issue/decision
The authorisation remains valid for as long as the conditions for obtaining it are met.
