Access to the Portal das Finanças with two-step authentication
Individuals with no business or professional activity will start authenticating on the Portal das Finançasl with a second authentication factor (2FA).
To access the portal account with 2FA, in addition to the Tax Identification Number (NIF) and password, a verification code will also be required, which is sent by SMS at the time of authentication.
The second authentication factor (2FA), which guarantees greater protection when accessing the Portal das Finanças account, will be implemented in phases:
- Current phase: individual taxpayers with no business and/or professional activity
- Subsequent phases: taxpayers with business and professional activity and collective taxpayers.
How to log in to the Portal das Finanças with the second authentication factor (2FA)
You can join the 2FA using the message that appears when you “Log in” to the Portal das Finanças or from the side menu, in the options:
Services > Taxpayer Authentication > Access Data > Second Authentication Factor
After signing up to 2FA:
- You must enter a code sent to your cell phone by SMS every time you log in
- The telephone contact must be registered and confirmed on the tax portal
- You can change the telephone number after logging in, in the “Contact details” area
If the taxpayer loses access to the registered telephone number, they can:
- Use authentication.gov (Citizen Card or Digital Mobile Key) to update the contact
- Alternatively, cancel access to the tax portal and register again.
With this new registration you will be able to define the new telephone contact and re-join the second authentication factor.
