European Parliament elections on 9 June 2024

27.05.2024

The 2024 European elections will be held on 9 June. In the European Parliament elections, 21 Portuguese MEPs will be elected for a five-year term.
Voting will take place between 8am and 7pm. Those who can't vote on the 9th can register for early voting between 26 and 30 May. The date for early voting in Portugal is 2 June.

In these elections, for the first time, it is not compulsory to vote at the place of registration. All you have to do is take your identification document with you to vote at any polling station in Portugal. You can find all the available polling stations on the Voter Portal (Portal do Eleitor). It is also possible to check the voting place of registration, on the Find out where to vote page.

Voting abroad

People registered abroad will be able to vote on 8 and 9 June at the embassies and consulates defined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Voting will take place between 8am and 7pm. On the American continent, voting opens at 8am and closes between 12pm and 4pm, depending on the location. You can check the voting times for each location in this document.

Early voting abroad, which is available to people registered in Portugal and travelling abroad, takes place between 28 and 30 May, without the need for prior registration. The National Electoral Commission (CNE) has made available a list of the places for early voting abroad.
