Pay contributions directly to ADSE

Contributions to Institute for Protection and Assistance in Illness (Instituto Público de Gestão Participada – ADSE) are usually paid by the employer or by the entity responsible for paying the pension (National Pensions Centre or Caixa Geral de Aposentações).

In situations such as, for example, sick leave or parental leave, the contribution may not have been deducted in a given month. When this happens, the beneficiary is responsible for paying the missing contribution directly.

Who can pay contributions directly to ADSE?

The principal ADSE beneficiary who is in one of the following situations:

  • Retired, with a suspended pension
  • Termination of the public employment legal relationship by mutual agreement or termination of an open-ended public employment contract, provided that the worker chooses to maintain ADSE beneficiary status; this situation must be stated in the termination agreement
  • While serving a non-dismissal disciplinary penalty
  • Leave granted under sickness, maternity and paternity protection
  • Leave granted under the Status Equivalent to Scholarship Holder
  • Special leave for the performance of public functions in Macau
  • Special leave for the temporary performance of duties as a Judicial Magistrate or Public Prosecutor in Macau
  • Long-term unpaid leave applicable to Notaries
  • Long-term unpaid leave due to illness
  • Unpaid leave based on circumstances of public interest
  • Unpaid leave to accompany a spouse posted abroad
  • Unpaid leave to perform duties in an international organisation

When can you pay contributions directly to ADSE?

The contributions must be paid on the month they are due. If you miss the payment of a month, your ADSE registry may expire.

Submit the contributions:

  • Online, at ADSE Direta
  • In person, on ADSE 1 Shop: Praça de Alvalade, nº 18, 1748-001 Lisbon
  • In the Citizen Spots that offer the service.

What are the documents and requirements to pay contributions directly to ADSE?

You must authenticate on ADSE Direta using one of the following methods:

  • Digital Mobile Key (Chave Móvel Digital - CMD)
  • Citizen Card (Cartão de Cidadão)
  • Access credentials for the Tax Authority Portal
  • ADSE beneficiary number and password
