You only need to renew the enrolment if this does not happen automatically.
Enrolment is renewed automatically when moving up through years 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 9 and 11, provided there is no change of school, change of guardian, course or the need to choose subjects. Enrolment is also renewed automatically when pupils need to repeat a year.

When can you applying to enrol and renewing enrolment for preschool, primary and secondary education?
The dates for the request for enrolment and renewal of enrolment, according to school years, for the school year 2024/2025 are as follows:
- Preschool and 1st grade: April 22 to May 31
- 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades: July 1 to 11
- 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, and 11th grades: June 16 to 27
- 10th and 12th grades: July 15 to 22.
Automatic renewal applies when passing to the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 8th, 9th and 11th school years when:
- there is no school transfer
- there is no change in the guardian
- there is no change in the course of study
- there is no need to choose subjects.
In all other cases, it is necessary to start the renewal of enrolment process through the Portal das Matrículas (Enrolments Portal).
What are the documents and requirements to applying to enrol and renewing enrolment for preschool, primary and secondary education?
To sign in to the enrolment portal, you will need one of the following:
- login details for the Tax Office portal;
- a Digital Mobile Key (CMD);
- a Citizen Card, smart card reader and PIN.

When applying for enrolment, you will need:
- your identity document,
- the pupil/student’s identity document,
- a digital photograph of the pupil/student,
- your tax identification number and that of the student,
- your Social Security identification number and that of the student.
You may also need to upload one of the following documents to the enrolment portal:
- proof of residence – Access the Tax Office portal to obtain a tax residence certificate;
- proof of special educational needs – Technical and pedagogical report (RTP);
- proof of tests carried out in art schools, for enrolment in specialised art education.
After the student has been admitted for enrolment, the school may request more documents.

How applying to enrol and renewing enrolment for preschool, primary and secondary education?
For enrol for the first time, or to renew a previous enrolment, you must log in to the enrolment portal.
To sign in to the enrolment portal, you will need one of the following:
- login details for the Tax Office portal;
- a Digital Mobile Key (CMD);
- a Citizen Card, smart card reader and PIN.
Once you have signed in, choose the option ‘Matrícula’ [Enrolment]. Follow the steps indicated on the platform until you complete the process.
When you finish, you will receive a confirmation email. You will then receive notifications about the status of the process via email.
If you prefer, you can track the status of the process on the enrolment portal by signing in and choosing the ‘Matrícula’ option.
