Using the bibliographic information service at the National Library of Portugal (BNP)
The National Library of Portugal (BNP) provides a research service for bibliographic information on specific authors or subjects, in order to compile bibliographies and locate content in periodicals, monographs, cartography, iconography, and music.
Requests to use the bibliographic information research service are subject to evaluation/approval.

What are the requirements for using the bibliographic information service?
The request must specify:
- Subject to be researched
- Question(s) to be answered
- Objectives of the research
- Other elements useful for the research work

Requests to use the bibliographic information research service are subject to evaluation.
If the request falls within the scope of another institution, the bibliographic information search service will attempt to forward the request.
How much does it cost to request the bibliographic information research service?
Occasional bibliographic research requests are free of charge.
Research requests relating to certain authors or subjects are charged according to the general service price list.
Research quotations cost €5 (VAT included), which will be deducted from the final price of the research service if the service is carried out.
Each hour of research undertaken by a National Library of Portugal technician costs €18.45 (VAT included).
Urgent requests incur an additional charge of 50% on top of the base cost.
