Find out where to vote or check your voter registration status.

In Portugal, you vote in person on election day or by early voting. In some cases, postal voting is available. Voting by email, online or electronically is not possible.

When can you find out where to vote?

Information about your polling station will be available 15 days before the elections or referendum. Your polling station is where you should go to vote.

You can check the electoral register at any time. This will tell you which parish you are registered in. Your registration location corresponds to the parish of the address on your Portuguese Citizen Card. If you live abroad, your registration location is the consular section of the embassy or consular post in the area listed on your Portuguese Citizen Card.

How find out where to vote?

It is only possible to know the place of voting in the 15 days before each election or referendum. Outside this period, you can only check in which parish council you are registered.

Via SMS:

  • Write a message with: RE, space, Portuguese civil identification number, space, date of birth in YYYYMMDD format (example: RE 12345678 19740425) 

For example, if you were born on 25 April 1974, you should enter the date as follows: 19740425.

  • Send it to 3838 (free service)

Online:

Before clicking on “Pesquisar” (Search), you will be asked to confirm that you are human (a real person)

To do that, enter the characters that appear inside the chosen symbol:

  • It does not matter if they are uppercase or lowercase
  • It does not matter if they are crossed out
  • Enter only the characters that appear inside the symbol

In person, in a parish council or town hall.

By phone, via the Voter Support Line, number 808 206 206 (local call charge), from 9 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
