Who can request the widow’s pension?

The widow or the individual who was in a non-marital relationship with the social pension’s deceased pensioner, provided that:

  • They have Portuguese nationality or are under conditions of equal treatment with the Portuguese citizens.
  • They reside on national territory.
  • Not being entitled to any pension in its own right and fulfilling the condition of resources of the social pension.

When can you request the widow’s pension?

You may request the pension at any moment from the date of death.
Nevertheless:

  • if you request it within six months from the month following the death, you are entitled to the instalment from that month.
  • if you request it after that period, you are only entitled to it from the month following the request’s delivery.

What are the documents and requirements to request the widow’s pension?

  • your Social Security number and password
