Who can exchange the military driving license for a civil license?

The holders of valid driving certificates issued by military or security forces, with the minimum age demanded by law to drive the vehicles of the categories allowed on the license.

The exchange may be requested up to two years after the soldier or agent:

  • finishes the bachelor’s degree
  • is out of service or on reserve
  • is pre-retired
  • is retired.

When can you exchange the military driving license for a civil license?

You may request the exchange for the civil driving license from the moment you have the driving certificate issued by the military authority or security force or up to two years after:

  • you have a bachelor’s degree.
  • you are out of service or on reserve.
  • you are pre-retired.
  • you are retired.

Where exchange the military driving license for a civil license?

You must submit the request on the IMT service of your area of residence.

What are the documents and requirements to exchange the military driving license for a civil license?

To submit the request, you shall need to display:

  • Identification document

  • Driving licence

  • Electronic medical certificate

  • Military identification document

  • Military driving certificate

  • Declaration issued by the military authorities confirming that the driving certificate was obtained after passing a driving test. This declaration also confirms that the person is currently in service or that no more than 2 years have passed since leaving military service (due to discharge, transfer to availability, reserve, pre-retirement or retirement)

  • Psychological assessment certificate (issued by a psychologist), for drivers of vehicles in categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D and DE, as well as for categories B and BE if driving ambulances, fire service vehicles, patient transport vehicles, school transport, collective transport of children or light passenger hire vehicles
